Films and TV Shot in the Hudson Valley

Hudson Valley is a hotbed for production of films and TV. A great way to experience a place more deeply is through its arts, so maybe get to know the Hudson Valley better by watching the films and shows that exploit its gorgeous and gritty scenery.

Recent Films:

Companion (2025)

A weekend getaway turns bloody and violent when a subservient android that's built for human companionship goes haywire. Filmed throughout the Hudson Valley, including Garrison, Fishkill, Beacon, and the Putnam Valley.

 

Sing Sing (2024)

Based on the true story of a man imprisoned at Sing Sing for a crime he didn't commit. When joined by a wary outsider, he finds purpose staging an original comedy with a theater group of other incarcerated men. The film had notable scenes shot at Downstate Correctional Facility, a decommissioned prison in Fishkill, as well as the Hudson Sports Complex in Warwick and the Beacon High School in Beacon.

 

Good One (2024)

During a weekend backpacking trip in the Catskills, 17-year-old Sam navigates the clash of egos between her father and his oldest friend. Filmed primarily in Minnewaska State Park Preserve and Woods in Kerhonkson.

 

Smile 2 (2024)

About to embark on a new world tour, global pop sensation Skye Riley begins to experience increasingly terrifying and inexplicable events. The film was shot throughout the Hudson Valley, including Albany, Newburgh, Poughkeepsie, and Wappingers Falls.

 

Close to You (2024)

A trans man revisits his hometown, facing family tensions. He reconnects with an old flame, rediscovering himself. His journey leads to self-acceptance and newfound strength. The film features a supporting role by actress Hillary Baack, and was also produced by her husband, Alexander Baack, who both live in Hudson, NY.

 

Between the Temples (2024)

A cantor in a crisis of faith finds his world turned upside down when his grade school music teacher reenters his life as his new adult bat mitzvah student. Filmed in Kingston, Red Hook, and Woodstock.

 

Blockbusters:

Avengers: End Game (2019)

The fourth installment in the Avengers saga finds the world's mightiest heroes understanding just how fragile reality is, and the sacrifices that must be made to uphold it, in a story of friendship, teamwork and setting aside differences to overcome an impossible obstacle. The Avenger's infamous homebase was shot at Mills Mansion and the Mills Memorial State Park in Staatsburg.

 

A Quiet Place (2018)

A family must live in silence to avoid mysterious creatures that hunt by sound. The film was shot throughout Dutchess, Ulster and Herkimer Counties.

 

Other Films:

The Dead Don't Die (2019)

In the sleepy small town of Centerville, something is not quite right: the dead rise from their graves and feast on the living, and the citizens must battle to survive. The film was primarily shot at multiple locations in Ancram and Catskill.

 

Nobody's Fool (1994)

Donald "Sully" Sullivan is an expert at avoiding adult responsibilities. When his estranged son arrives in town, bringing with him a son of his own, Sully finds himself assuming the roles of both father and grandfather. The film was shot throughout the Hudson Valley, primarily in Beacon, Fishkill, Hudson, and Poughkeepsie. Of notable importance, the now-defunct Governor's Tavern in Hudson was used as the bar in The Iron Horse, which features prominently.

 

Odds Against Tomorrow (1959)

A disgraced former police officer decides to rob a bank, enlisting the help of a mean ex-con and a black entertainer. The film's bank sequences were shot entirely in Hudson, New York.

After travelling with her new boyfriend to his parents' secluded farm, a young woman soon finds herself with misgivings. The film was shot in many locations in upstate New York, such as Fishkill, Middletown, and Lowville, and including the use of the Red Line Diner in Fishkill.

 

TV Shows:

Severance (on Apple+)

A team of office workers whose memories have been surgically divided between their work and personal lives must band together when a mysterious colleague appears outside of work. Over its two seasons, the series has filmed in Nyack, Kingston, Beacon, Cold Spring and Minnewaska State Park.

 

Poker Face (on Peacock)

A mystery-of-the-week series following Charlie Cale, who has an extraordinary ability to determine when someone is lying. As a road trip narrative, the series utilized the Hudson Valley's unique locations that could easily stand in for many different parts of the country. Notably, Umbra, formerly Anthony's Pier 9, in New Windsor, Restaurant Depot in Newburgh, Rodeway Inn in New Paltz, Trevor Zoo in Millbrook, and Story Screen Beacon Theater in Beacon.

 

The White House Plumbers (on Max)

This HBO series follows the events of the Watergate scandal as Nixon's political saboteurs, E. Howard Hunt and G. Gordon Liddy, accidentally topple the presidency they were zealously trying to protect. The series features several scenes shot in Poughkeepsie, Albany, White Plains, and Newburgh.
